Academic artwork entitled "Night". Painted by
William-Adolphe Bouguereau in 1883.
This painting features one of the most repeated motifs from the artist's career: a woman (usually representing a mythological goddess) floating in the air with various elements. In this case it depicts Nix, the Greek goddess of the night (
see Wikipedia). Another example of a similar composition is the painting "The Dawn".
"Night" is currently found in the collection of Hillwood Museum and Gardens in Washington DC, United States.
